Hot Tamale!!!

Senoritas - a breath of fresh air for Malaysia music industry and to continue the
flame that fellow girl-groups like Elite and Feminin set alight years ago. An embodiment of
youthful obsession with music, dance and fashion, it is hoped that Senoritas as an
independent girl group can inspire fellow girls who aspire to tread in the same path and
show that making it as a top girl group is more than just glitz and glamour: a lot of hard
work, perseverance and strong values of sisterhood is needed. As of today, Senoritas had
made quite a name for themselves in the independent circuit and they continue to give it
their best shot to stay relevant and make a change in the local music scene.
Being new and move independently in local music scene, Senoritas is
enthusiastically expecting for so much more in the future and will definitely give their very
best in their future performances.

Senoritas was formed in early May 2008 when Lynnzay and her business
partner, Zyra Z. realized that local industry lacks of vocal groups with both singing
and dancing skills. With previous experiences as dancers and singers, they have
decided to combine both skills in this yet to be formed group, Senoritas. To add on,
Lynnzay has a talented little sister who is just 16 years old but is also giftedwith
dance skills and powerful voice. Finally, Lynnzay , Zyra Z. and Meera, got together
as a group with a mission to make a difference inthe local music scene. In addition,
their vision is to be one of the artistes that can bring Malaysia’s music worldwide
and definitely to higher level.
They also labeled themselves as flexible performers as they can perform with
instrumental or minus one, acoustic or with a band. They perform songs originally
sang by their influenced artistes such as Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, All Saints
and etcetera for their various performances. They have now begun to perform their
own original songs and so far, the feedbacks from the audience have been indeed
positive. Somehow, they are still in the process to release their own original
materials.
Senoritas dare to label themselves as INDEPENDENT artist because they
are their own songs writer and they handle their own showmanship for their
performances which include songs selection, dance routine and wardrobe. They also
come up with their own image and style.
Being independent, aggressive, hip, energetic and urban to the listeners,
Senoritas promises to bring these elements in each and every performance of theirs
and they will definitely give you the most unforgettable, heart-pumping experiences.

TOKYO BLUE (Hiroaki Maekawa, Ywenna Carollin, Joshua Maran)

says ”Coming from different musical backgrounds and music scenes, the music created by the trio is quite diverse and unique. ‘If I have to describe Tokyo Blue’s music, it’s quite rojak, you know,’ describes Maekawa with a laugh. ‘It’s definitely jazz-based but it’s not jazz jazz because we like so many different styles and genres of music. So we try to get good things from different kinds of music for our music.’ Tokyo Blue’s debut album, ‘The Naked Soul’ offers melodious fusion tunes, which might anger jazz purists. ‘I don’t think we’re just a one-genre-only band,’ states Maekawa firmly. ‘We’re not purists. We’re whatever. I think we’ll be a bridge between the indie music and jazz scene in Malaysia.’
With Carollin’s classical influences along with Maran’s rock background and Maekawa’s love for funk, rock and film music, Tokyo Blue’s music is pretty much the type that they love listening to and playing.”

Tokyo Blue was formed in 2008 by bassist Hiroaki Maekawa, pianist Ywenna Carollin and drummer Joshua Maran to compose and perform original instrumental music. Heavily influenced by international artists and composers including Hiromi Uehara, Avishai Cohen, Marcus Miller, Joe Hisaishi and more, Tokyo Blue's music has essences of Jazz, Fusion, Latin, Progressive Rock and even Film music. The trio uses sweet melodies with funky rhythm section and odd meters at times, constantly pushing their limits of jazz writing and improvisation while still keeping the songs melodious and story-full.

While still performing at jazz venues, festivals and private events, Tokyo Blue has recorded their debut album with all originals, which was just released in October 2009. The trio has a distinct sound featuring the adventurous bass playing, aggressive yet sensitive piano and rock solid drum beats. The album also includes variety of tunes that reflect the different sides of their personalities. With the tunes featuring pounding rock riff on piano,mellow fretless bass taking the lead, disco beat with montuno, melodious odd meter piano with double bass, funky latin beats with slap bass and more, Tokyo Blue demonstrates their capabilities to write creative and meaningful tunes, and even to entertain through instrumental music.

Their latest gigs including: Jakarta 'Jazz Goes to Campus' 2009, Penang Jazz festival 2009, and the upcoming Bangkok Jazz Festival ( thailand) 2010

A Modern Alternative Rock band… whatever that is…

Take Me To Your Leader is a modern alternative rock band formed in 2010.

Comprising of major talents from Malaysia’s very own scene, its members include:

Adil – Guitars

Bone – Vocals

Jack – Bass

Joshua – Drums

Put together by Adil and Bone during hungry times, TMTYL is a newly formed band looking to push musical limits and evoke movement and emotions from their audience. Collectively the members have performed for a wide range of audiences for various shows and events, and each have a loyal following. From Rock The World, NTV 7’s Rock Unite, various battle of the bands, gigs, shows outside of Malaysia. The guys from TMTYL have done a lot, and they’re out to do even more.

Individually, all the members have gained various accomplishments in their current and also former bands.

Adil – Best known for his eclectic playing style and stylish stage presence, and extremely random sense of humor, was part of a band called Afterburn together with Bone, and within a month of the band’s formation they had qualified as finalists for NTV7’s Rock Unite.

Bone – Don’t let his appearances fool you. He’s a rock vocalist bearing a voice with major punch and delivers head spinning performances, has fronted a number of explosive bands including Culture Karma, Afterburn, and currently Pitbull Inc. (who recently performed at Rock The World 9), just to name a few.

Jack – Seasoned veteran of the scene, Jack currently plays for Tempered Mental and Naked Breed. Although an extremely accomplished guitarist, with TMTYL, Jack is exploring the realms of bass this time.

Joshua – Drummer for local bands such as Seven and jazz outfit Tokyo Blue. Joshua is a highly sought after drummer by many bands and acts alike. And yes, his resume is impressive. And with him as the drummer for TMTYL, you can rest assure that his beats will just make everyone groove and rock harder than anything.

With a strong line-up and creative tunes in the works, Take Me To Your Leader is a band to watch out for and will leave every audience wanting more.

Opening for The Mini Miri Jazz Fest is none other than songstress extraordinaire,
Miss Elvira

Comfortable sharing the stage with local living legends such as Lewis Pragasam, Andy Peterson, and Ricky Omar to name a few, she’s also been featured on a host of award-winning radio and television commercials, not to mention advertising campaigns. Somewhere along the way she even found herself backing some of the most sought after local artistes of the industry such as Sheila Majid, Jaclyn Victor, and Reshmonu.

Moonshine feat. Otam, Mia Palencia, Slowjaxx, Car Crash Hearts

It was yet another great night with Moonshine at Laundry Bar. This time featuring a stellar cast of seasoned performers with a closing act by an up and coming pop-punk act. Singer-songwriters Otam, Mia Palencia and Slowjaxx graced the stage and showcased a variety of unique original tunes. Later on Car Crash Hearts closed to show with a bang! While the night started off with a relaxing ambience, Car Crash Hearts tuned up the volume and rocked the house down!

Otam, a one-of-a-kind folk singer-songwriter opened the show with one of his most famous song. With a raspy, no holds barred voice coupled with a series of facial contortions, Otam gave one heck of a performance! This funny lad never fails to entertain the crowd with his innocent almost boyish spontaneous and completely out of the blue comments like "Oh sorry I played a bit too rushed". But of course writing about it doesn't do any justice what so ever. He's the kind of performer that you have to see to know. And if you weren't there at Laundry, man oh man, did you miss out on something great or what.

What makes Otam so unique is not only his coarse, honest voice, but also the spirit and vibe he gives out at every performance.

Otam coaxes the organizer of the show, a singer-songwriter himself, Reza Salleh, to play the guitar while he... raps!

A folk singer-songwriter who raps? No, really, he pulls it off superbly well!

Next up was none other than Mia Palencia. This lady really doesn't need much introduction. We've heard more than enough times of how explosive rock bands would bring the house down. Well, I bring to you ladies and gentleman, this sweet faced lady who would bring the roof down with only her voice. A constant joy to watch, Mia displayed an air of confidence and charm that only a seasoned performer possess. Belting out some new tracks she recently wrote, Mia played with a funky looking acoustic guitar (I swear it looks like a part of a mandolin or a ukelele). 

Reza Salleh was again ushered back on stage to duet with Mia for one last song. His deep voice coupled with Mia's falsetto voice sent shivers down my spine. They are quite possibly one of the best vocal duets I've heard in a long time.

Slowjaxx came up stage later armed with an electric guitar, a fedora hat and a glass of whisky. His songs weren't technically complex, no fancy gorengs, and nothing Hendrix-ish. I felt that his songs could be developed more, with more layers and some variety of melodies and riffs. But despite all those, there was a sense of "air" that eminated from him. You could feel his gravity and you can't help but be intruiged by his aura. He had charm. He had style. And he had an infectious smile. Just exactly the kind of triple threat combination of many legendary singer-songwriters that started out performing in pubs and cafes. Musically he wasn't near mind blowing, but his voice and catchy lyrics gave him an edge. The kind of edge that you would hear and say, "He's an artist".

And what'd ya know, Reza's back on stage again! Here he is accompanying Slowjaxx on stage to sing a number.

And here it is, the final act of the night, Car Crash Hearts. These four lads from Klang Valley gave a heck of a rock out! A new up and comer in the indie scene, Car Crash Hearts comprises of seasoned performer (Wafiey from Ben's Bitches and Alda from.... well there's too many bands to name if y'know what I mean!). No doubt their sound is comparable to a slew of other pop-punk bands currently in the indie scene now. But I've to say, from experience, that their performance was nothing short of spectacular! And that is what sets them apart from many other pop-punk bands out there. Their songs are impressive as well; fresh and catchy. There was never a dull moment and their whole performance was filled with non-stop energy!
